We love HTML5, but we have also done our share of native mobile app development. While working on a customer project, we decided to finally go all-in and use HTML5 to build a native app. At the time, the existing offering for HTML5 wrappers seemed lacking, and we thought we could do better by ourselves.
We started building our own platform and learned a lot in the process. After a while, we decided to embrace the industry standard PhoneGap (also known as Apache Cordova) as the core of AppGyver.
This freed us to focus on two major things: performance and developer ergonomics. We had gained a lot of knowledge from working on our platform, and we wanted to use what we learned to make PhoneGap perform even better. Furthermore, building our own toolset had given us insight into what makes a mobile app development flow great, and we wanted to bring that experience to PhoneGap.
For a longer-term mission, we set two major goals for ourselves:
Rapid means the whole package: getting started really quickly, prototyping, seeing changes instantly, learning the platform without trouble, integrating with third party services, communicating with your customers, publishing your app, getting help when you run into a problem — it should all be rapid. Rapid means stable and enjoyable development. It means Getting Your App Done.
Though the journey is still in progress, we feel that AppGyver already fulfills the goals we set better than anything else out there. We are creating something we ourselves love to use. AppGyver is from developers, to developers — and please call us out if you feel like we're not delivering on that promise.
